Troubleshooting
When something goes wrong, first check whether you can reproduce it on the command line. Fox Git runs system Git, so the command-line error is often the root cause.
Git is too old or cannot be found
Fox Git requires Git 2.36 or later. Run git --version to check, and make sure Git is on your system PATH. See Getting started for how to upgrade.
Repeated credential prompts when cloning or pushing
- Make sure the credentials are right: many hosting platforms require a personal access token instead of your account password.
- Fox Git does not store what you type into the prompt. To avoid typing it again, configure a credential helper (for example
git config --global credential.helper) or an SSH agent. - For SSH remotes, check that
ssh -Tconnects and your key is loaded in the agent. - A prompt left for five minutes counts as cancelled; just run the operation again.
Pull opened the sync dialog
When local and remote have diverged, or remote commits overlap your local changes, Fox Git does not pick a strategy for you. The dialog lists both sides' commits; choose rebase or merge according to your team's conventions. The default comes from the repository's pull.rebase setting.
Force Push with Lease is blocked
The remote branch received new commits after your last fetch. Fetch or pull first to see what your teammates pushed, then decide whether to force push.
A conflict cannot be marked as resolved
The file still contains <<<<<<< or >>>>>>> conflict markers. Use conflict navigation to find the remaining conflicts, or remove the leftover markers in Result, and try again.
Licensing
- Check license status, validity, and devices on the license lookup page.
- When the device limit is reached, deactivate devices you no longer use on the license lookup page (when your license allows it), or contact support.
- See Licensing and activation for more.
Still stuck? Email support with your steps, the output of git --version, and any error messages. Never send your full license key, passwords, or tokens.
