Why we build Fox Git
Fork, SourceTree, and GitKraken have made basic Git GUIs good enough to use. But how we develop is changing: AI generates more and more code, and developers need not just to write faster, but to reliably understand every change, split commits, resolve conflicts, and push with confidence.
Fox Git aims to be a cross-platform Git client with a modern UI, a refined commit experience, and first-class support for conflict merging and file viewing. It is not another code editor, nor a thin shell around Git commands.
Our principles
Correctness first
Fox Git runs the Git on your system instead of reimplementing it. Your config, hooks, and credential helpers keep working, and results match the command line. Performance work must never break Git's behavior.
Read-only by default
Browsing code, viewing diffs, and reading history should never risk an accidental edit. Only flows you explicitly enter, such as conflict resolution, write to the working tree, and operations that can lose data explain their impact first.
Invest where judgment matters most
IDEA-style linked three-way conflict merging, and file viewing as a first-class feature — inline blame, hover cards, file and range history — are the reasons Fox Git exists. Branches, sync, the graph, and PR / MR support are the essentials around them.
Consistent everywhere
Linux is a first-class citizen. macOS, Windows, and Linux share the same workbench and shortcut system.
What's next
Next we will complete interactive rebase and worktree management, then add AI review, a built-in terminal, and the PR / MR review loop for GitHub and GitLab, including self-managed. AI output is always a draft until you confirm it. See the roadmap for the full plan, and pricing and the refund policy for purchase terms.
